Harbor Press publishes nonfiction books only. We are best known for our self-help and health titles, especially in the area of holistic health and healing, but we have recently begun branching out into other areas of interest in non-fiction. Recent publications include Yes, Your Teen Is Crazy! - Loving Your Kid Without Losing Your Mind by Michael J. Bradley, Ed.D. and Healing Back Pain Naturally by Art Brownstein, M.D.
We consider only titles, which we feel are highly promotable, written by an appropriately credentialed author, and likely to appeal to a mass audience. If your nonfiction project meets these criteria, we welcome your submission. Please include the following:
I. Query letter
II. Book proposal
D. Unique approach
E. Qualifications for writing
A. Title page
B. Your contact information
D. Author background
E. Competition section - What else is out there?
F. Marketing analysis - Who will buy your book?
G. Promotions section - What will you do to help market your book?
H. Table of contents
I. Two sample chapters
For detailed information on how to write a successful query and proposal, please consult any number of good books on writing proposals for non-fiction literature, such as Write the Perfect Book Proposal: 10 Proposals That Sold and Why by Jeff Herman and Deborah M. Adams (John Wiley & Sons, Inc. $15.95), or The Fast-Track Course on How to Write a Nonfiction Book Proposal by Stephen Blake Mettee (Word Dancer Press, $12.95).
We are also interested in hearing from professional, versatile, published writers who are interested in freelance writing and ghostwriting assignments. Please send a résumé and samples of your work.
We review and consider all submissions that we receive. You will hear from us only if we find that your project is a good fit for us. Otherwise, we are unable to respond to submissions and to follow-up inquiries, so please do not call, write, or e-mail. We will be able to return your book proposal only if it is accompanied by a stamped, self-addressed envelope.
We are able to publish only a small percentage of the book projects submitted to us, so please keep in mind, if we do not respond to your submission, it is because it does not fit our objectives and requirements at that particular time. It does not mean that your project is without merit, or that it cannot be sold to another publisher.
Thank you for your interest in Harbor Press. We wish you well!
